Dr. Bernard Vallat started his professional career as specialist of livestock development in African countries during 17 years and then in French cooperation headquarters during 4 years. He continued as Chief Veterinary Officer of France during 5 years. Then he was elected Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in May 2000 by the World Assembly, which brings together the national Delegates of 181 OIE Member Countries. His first five-year term of office began on 1 January 2001. In May 2005 and 2010, he has been reelected for a second and a third mandate. Since 1st January 2016, he is Honorary Director General of the OIE. Dr. Vallat has been honored in USA by the Pennsylvania Veterinary World Award (2008), by the Michael J. Mansfield Award (US Meat export Federation) in 2006, by SSAFE leadership Award in 2011 and SSAFE honorary advisor nomination in 2016. During June 2017 he has been elected President of the French national Federation of meat transformation industry starting its new function 1st of September 2017.
