The veterinarian plays a significant role in the society. 

With the development and improvement of human society, the idea and consciousness to protect animals is becoming deeply rooted among the people. Animal life has been influenced by veterinarians in the direct or indirect way, especially in animal welfare. The veterinarian, in a unique position, is an important gateway. Good animal welfare is an integral part of animal health. Healthy animals not only refer to the physical health, but also to be able to adapt to the environment physically and mentally, and to show natural behavior. Veterinarians can reduce the pain of millions of animals by taking advantage of their expertise. In each corner of the world, farmers, animal owners, animal lovers, the people who are dedicated to improve animal welfare, and the people having all kinds of relations with animals place great hopes on and show full respect of veterinarians. 

In recent years, more and more horse races have been held domestically, regulated vet is playing an increasingly important role in guaranteeing racing safety and horse welfare. During events, the horse welfare is of the highest priority, and no behavior and interest can go against or damage it. The vet should make detailed and scientific assessments of the suitability of racing horses, and also make the prompt medical treatment for horses in any emergency. Regulated vet will take all responsibilities to ensure horse welfare, having rights and obligations to stop any detrimental behaviors.

Looking back the Chinese veterinary work in recent years, we have achieved a lot. However, compared with the international rules and standards, the level of development in veterinary career of China is still not high, which need to actively introduce or absorb achievements of civilization from world veterinary development, strengthening the basic education and scientific and technological research in order to further enhance the capability and level of the healthy development of livestock breeding, the security of animal health and veterinary public health.

The 15th WEVA Congress will be held in Beijing from April 21 to 23, 2018. The WEVA Congress is a biennial international congress which is considered as the most professional and the most authoritative top-level gathering of equine veterinarians. It will be co-organized by World Equine Veterinary Association (WEVA) and China Horse Industry Association (CHIA). WEVA is a non-profit organization (NPO) whose board members are all top equine veterinarians with rich experience from all around the world. It has been advancing the health and welfare of horses worldwide by promoting and offering quality continuing education for equine practitioners since 1985.

The 15th WEVA Congress is themed on "Breeding, Caring, Loving". It contains professional training seminars for veterinarians and relevant students, and technical sessions for equine practitioners such as jockeys, stable managers, horse owners and grooms.

In the upcoming congress, besides the most professional and the state-of-the-art expertise, the most useful and efficient equine therapies will be also provided for equine practitioners and congress participants. In this way, the congress will contribute to improve the status of domestic equine veterinarians and enhance the significance of equine veterinarians for industrial development.
